Six Reasons to Take the Small Room

So you’ve found the flat of your dreams! You all decide it’s amazing. You can’t wait to move in and then… it’s time for someone to take the small room.  It doesn’t have to be a huge deal though. Here are six great reasons to take the plunge to bijou paradise.

1. You’ll Have More Money

Small room? Small rent. You’ll have more money to get out of your small room and do cool things. While those big-room wastemen are counting their pennies in their empty, soulless crates, you’ll be out flashing dollar around town.

2. Minimal = Happy!

In a small room, you simply can’t pile up crap endlessly, which is good news because studies shows that having less junk makes you more happy! So declutter your mind and soul with a small room and be flatmates with nirvana.

 3. Guilt Trip Heaven

Having the smallest room is the ultimate get out of jail free card for chores. Sort out the council tax? Small room. Unload the dishwasher? Sorry mate – small room, remember? Take the bins out? Nope, sorry – small room.

 4. You’ll be Warmer

Small rooms are warmer. Don’t ask us why. We’re not physicists. Maybe it’s God’s way of saying “Nice one for not causing a fuss when you all moved in, Gareth,” or maybe it’s that small rooms need less energy to heat because there’s less air in them. Whatever. The point is that while your greedy flatmates have frosty ice-caves, you’ll feeling toasty in your cosy boudoir.

 5. Quality, Not Quantity

If the flat is unfurnished, you’ll find yourself spending a lot less than your flatmates on furniture. This means you can focus on quality, not quantity. While your flatmates’ rooms look like an accumulation of cheap that fell off the Argos lorry, your room can look like a Pentreath & Hall showcase!

 6. It Isn’t Forever

If you’re in a flatshare, you’re probably not going to be there for long. In the last months of 2013, the average tenancy was 19 months, so it’s not a life sentence!
