Manchester’s 5 best beer gardens this summer

For flatmates in Manchester, you have two options when the sun is out: Either don some shorts and get some exercise or pick a beer garden settle-in. At least that’s what it often feels like on a sunny Saturday lunchtime.

For those who often choose option two, we have created a list of this summer’s best beer gardens in Manchester – you may want to pencil them in.

Blackjack Brewtap

Craft beer in nothing new to Manchester, but few have ever had been able to pick from 40 cask ales in what looks like an unused workshop. The Blackjack Brewery itself has become one of the best known in Manchester and the city’s increasingly adventurous punters will be making the most of the terrace this summer.

The Oast House

If you often venture out with your housemates in Manchester, you will have heard of The Oast House. Its famous beer garden broke the Guinness World Record for the largest beer tasting event in the summer of 2013, and its atmosphere has not died down since. If it’s not the local ales, the flattened rump straight from the barbeque will certainly get your juices going.

 The Mark Addy

This outdoor space overlooks the Irwell and attractively hangs over the water, offering a great talking point for visitors. Its lively atmosphere is often fuelled by the live music, sports and cocktails that the venue is known for. This one should definitely make your shortlist for the Rugby World Cup 2015.

The Angel

In Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter, The Angel is renowned for its log fire and warming menu in the winter. Now the sun is here, the large beer garden is bursting at the seams. Match the wild board burger with a locally sourced cider, and arrive early to find the space to soak it all up.

Brewdog

Beer snobs may be turning on the success of the most popular craft beer brand in the UK, but there’s no denying it – they have got it right. And if their flagship Punk IPA is no longer exciting enough, their guest brews certainly are. The outdoor space is small and square but it catches the sun and perfectly matches the gutsy range of beers on offer.
