In London, you hardly have to travel far to see a famous landmark, such as Tower Bridge or Buckingham Palace. Plus, there are a number of green parks within the city, such as Richmond Park, where you could even spot some wild deer. That’s right — deer in a city! Cardiff
Did you know that the city of Cardiff has more green space per capital than any other UK city? Well, you do now! There’s Bute Park that houses Cardiff Castle, the Cardiff Bay Barrage, and the River Taff, which runs through the city centre. Despite all these open natural spaces, Cardiff is quite a small city. You can cycle from one end to the other in around 15 minutes (if you’re speedy!). However, this doesn’t mean that this capital isn’t packed with things to do. In fact, the city is huge when it comes to sporting events such as international rugby and football, which go on all year. Cardiff even hosts a white water rafting festival! The arts and culture scene in this city is great too. Cardiff is home to a contemporary circus company, an art house cinema and the Welsh National Opera. And, you’re only 40 miles from Bristol, and 150 miles from London. If you’re looking to rent a flatshare in a smaller capital, where you’re likely to bump into familiar faces wherever you go, Cardiff is the place for you.
Edinburgh
If you’ve ever seen photographs of Edinburgh, you’ll be aware of the number of beautiful historical buildings this city has… there’s even a castle! This city is incredibly picturesque, but that’s not to say that it doesn’t also have a modern edge. There are contemporary art galleries, cinemas and shops everywhere you turn. Of course, Edinburgh also plays host to the famous Fringe Festival, when the city is filled with performing arts and comedy acts for an entire month. If Edinburgh sounds like the city for you, you and your roommates should try out some of the classic local delicacies, like haggis, Irn-Bru and deep-fried Mars bars! Yummy!
Dublin
The thing that tends to attract people to Dublin is its nightlife. With a huge pub culture, the capital of Ireland is always buzzing with people in and around its city centre. The famous Camden Mile stretches across the city and includes a grand total of 27 pubs! But, that’s not all. Dublin is close to rivers, mountains and seas too. The Dingle and Wild Atlantic Way, for example, are famous around the world. You can take long walks and relax there, away from the hustle and bustle, or so-called “craic”, of this lively capital. The city centre itself is incredibly compact, which means you can walk just about anywhere, giving you a fantastic sense of independence when it comes to getting around. After a few pints of Guinness, though, walking may not be your best option! Ultimately, flatsharing in Dublin is a one-of-a-kind experience to be embraced.
