The flatshare revolution is making London tastier. Fact. With such a diverse blend of people sharing kitchens, people are being exposed to food from around the world… and they’re loving it.
We were interested to find out more about this, so we asked members of the EasyRoommate UK community two questions about flatsharing and food:
- Has living with people from different cultural backgrounds inspired you to try new food?
- Does your flatshare like to cook together and experiment with different cuisines?
Amazingly, 83.33% of the 204 people asked said their housemates enjoy cooking together and experimenting with different cuisines. Even cooler, 82.77% of 383 asked said living with others from a different cultural background has inspired them to try new food.
In light of this, we thought we’d offer some advice on how to sauce-up your flatshare kitchen.
Here’s our comprehensive guide to the sauces you desperately need in your London flatshare if you want to impress.
Todd’s Concoctions Cola-Leather BBQ Sauce
Like chicken? Send your taste buds into overdrive with this rich, bold sauce. You might not automatically pair the flavour of cola with your meat, but trust us on this one – you need to try it to believe it. Your housemates will thank your for it, too. It’s dark, sticky and sumptuous. Not for the fait of heart.
Nduja’s Spicy Salami Spread
The salty, moreish taste of salami in spread form? Straight from the fine people at Calabria, this incredible, delicate sauce isn’t your average meat paste. It’s a well-balanced sauce that will add bags of extra flavour to your next communcal spag bol. It is sure to be the secret ingredient at your next dinner party and a talking point at that.
East India Company’s Lapsang Souchong Mustard
Everybody should have at least three different types of mustard in their cupboard. As real mustard snobs, we’d recommend you stock up on this highly rated sauce – ranked as one of TimeOut’s top sauces. It’s a lapsang and garlic infused mustard that is smokey, creamy and aromatic in equal thirds. Add it to your next fish pie.
Stokes’ Real Tomato Ketchup
If you can afford to live near a Waitrose, first off – congratulations – and second, nip in and buy yourself some of this vivacious ketchup. It’s rich, fruity and doesn’t taste like every other ketchup. The wizards at Stokes’ have been making their sauce for almost 20 years, so they know what they are doing, and they only use the finest Italian tomatoes in their Suffolk “saucery”.
Original Australian BBQ Natural Maple Hickory Liquid Smoke
Its title might be a bit wordy, but once you’ve covered your steak in this saliva-inducing BBQ sauce, you’ll want a mouthful. It’s a sad fact, but you can’t have a BBQ every day. It’s just not practical. But when needs must, this sticky, dark sauce has your back. It’s guaranteed to get your flatmates begging for more, just don’t let them use all of your great sauce.
Stock your cupboards with some of these delicious sauces and spread the culinary knowledge with your flatmates – everyone’s doing it.
