We at Easyroommate know that it is not easy living with people, whether they be family or friends, so we want to know what most annoys you in your flatshare?
A Pet Peeve is defined as – a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to them, to a greater degree than others may find it.
Here are some great examples!! : )
-Leaving clothes in the washing machine, hours after it has finished!
-People who put Ketchup in the Refrigerator!
-Dishes left on the drying rack that have been dry for days!
-Crumbs in the butter!
-Toothpaste Squeezed in the centre!
-People who don’t set the ice tray back!
-Leaving an empty roll of toilet paper on the back of the toilet!
-Hair in the plug hole!
-When hand soap is diluted with water!
-Snapping the top down on the washing up liquid!

Rumaging through your things and think you won’t notice.
Leaving dirty dishes on the counter for days to say afterwards it wasn’t theirs.
Always being away when it’s time to clean up the place
Cleaning only the rotating tray in the microwave oven
Just washing the mirror and sink and saying they make their part to keep the place clean…
Telling you when to shower and shave / when to do your ‘chores’ / thinks the house is clean but takes you 1/2 a day to clean it / holds monthly meetings to discuss issues but then stalks you around the house nagging you like a wife/mother. Why live like this when I can live at home???
Leaving the bathroom door open while peeing
Walking around the apartment with your shoes on

Saying you are a non smoker, moving in and then smoking outside a “non smoking” household. Coincidently guys, the smoke still blows into the house – funny that !!!!
People who use something of yours and replace it with a cheaper alternative I know I’m fussy but it still doesnt excuse it
Oh I’ve got a couple and some wer mentioned in the above list.
-stepping out of your clothes, underwear and all and leaving them in the floor when you go to take a shower.
-being blatantly loud.
-random loud outbursts over nothing
-repeating the same stupid phrase
-seeing the same face every single day
-goign to sleep with the tv turned all the way down
People who expect you do clean, cook and do everything in the house. I’m not a maid nor your mother!!! And pay your rent on time so I don’t have to ask for it!!There’s some lazy people out there and it drives me nuts!
Hi, I’ve done share accom for 20 years, and have come across some weird people…lol… 1. Sheila a lady from England stayed with us, she has moved back now, but she picked up a dead white faced owl off the road and stuck it in our freezer, another boarder Damian, who shared the freezer told me about it and how she did not want me to know, and how he thought she was inconsiderate as the bird could have died from a disease and sent the rest of the food to be contaminated that we all had stored to eat.. I soon grabbed the possibly diseased contaminated owl and threw it in the bin. The next day Sheila went looking for the owl… I joked to my husband WHO WHO stole the owl.. lol…we all had a great old laugh, except for Sheila of course.. I have many more stories to tell you, but I have met some wonderful people too, and learnt many valuable lessons also about trust/money, and reliability. The most important thing I can tell you all is not to rent your rooms at too low a price, as if you do this the boarders are not even paying you for the extra power they are using… These days I have 3 rooms in a really nice wealthy area starting at $200-$300 depending if they have internet/austar/aircon. We do live in an expensive home, and bills are even more expensive at $2000/quarter.
Also its very important you include your bills within the cost of the rent, this is so much better than getting ripped off when the boarder does not pay up when the bills come in, some will move out before the bills come, and others will argue why they should pay at all or the amount they should have be asked to pay.. Make life easier for everyone, and tell them thats the exact reason, so they don’t get chased for the bills, and you don’t have to chase people up either, much, much easier and no more headaches.., I always charge around $20-$50more depending if aircon or not etc.. Never include meals, people eat at different times, and have different diets, plus this is time consuming, and you may find yourself spending all the hard earned board money on their meals, so again you are not making/saving anything toward your own bills.. These days I recommend you charge minimum $150wk for a dumpy place, then equate your bills on top..Remember you are only having a boarder in the first place to help pay the bills, they should never cost you money.. After all, how much price do you put on giving up your own privacy, not to mention some of the crap you have to put up with along the way.. ps. Do reference checks, if people don’t want to do one, or can’t give you one there’s normally a reason like they are a criminal or have not paid rent on time and have very bad name, black listed from paying rent thru real estates etc.. Always take a photocopy of their drivers licence, how else do you really know who is living in your home, and you will need proof if they do a runner and steal from you.. Its also normally a good idea to stick mainly to taking in working people, these are the people who will most likely pay rent on time and be reliable and not give you excuses.. Always take a deposit in case they damage/steal or break something in the home. I always charge 2weeks advance rent, and tell people when they give notice to leave, they don’t pay the rent for 2 weeks, this works out great both ways..

Walking around with HIGH HEELS on…….. I can’t imagine something more annoying than a noisy shoe!!
Finding I have been locked out of my own house while my roomie is inside with a friend while I am forced to knock on the door because the hidden key suddenly isn’t where I left it, the 30 seconds or so it takes for that door to finally open, then my questions about the key coming to an “Oh it’s right HERE!” pointing to a table where suddenly the key has miraculously appeared and then playing dumb when I ask why the front door was locked doesn’t help me have good happy thoughts, thanks for letting me vent.

-People who put Ketchup in the Refrigerator! — it says to do that on the container and you share ketchup? We don’t really share anything besides basic appliances
-Crumbs in the butter! –We have our own stuff
-Toothpaste Squeezed in the centre! — you share toothpaste? Gross
-Hair in the plug hole! — frequent problem, shower. Keep having to prod the person who doesn’t speak much English to clear up her loose hair
-Snapping the top down on the washing up liquid! — we don’t share it. Snapping as in closed or breaking?
