You cycle to work? Good for you! You’re saving money, saving the planet and keeping fit. What’s not to love? I’ll tell you what – bike storage. Storing your bicycle tidily is always a massive pain.
Let’s face it – bicycles aren’t designed to be compact and storable. They’re pretty much designed to be as difficult to keep indoors as possible, with their oily chains, moving parts and long, thin builds. Luckily, a whole army of the world’s finest minds have been working out exactly how best to store bikes indoors, and have come up with these sick bike storage hacks! Your bike will never be a trip hazard again.
1. Bike storage shelf
Things that are good because they can have stuff on top of them: shelves. Things that can hang off other things safely: bikes. Voila! The bike wall-mount/shelf is born! It’s always a helpful shelf, but when you’re not out riding, it’s also a bike rack!
2. Bike hangers
Got more than one cyclist in the house? Then you’re gonna need more than one bicycle rack. If you hang a bar high enough, you can dangle four bikes in the same horizontal space it take to park one bike!
3. Bike storage locker
Most cities and many social housing developments have bicycle lockers. You’ve probably seen them around without realising. Each one is secured with a personal lock and can be hired out from the council (usually super cheap!).
4. Cycle Hoop
Here’s another thing you’ve probably seen but not paid much attention to: Cycle Hoop is London’s biggest cycle-parking network. You can rent out spaces like this or private secure lockers for only a few dozen quid every year.
5. DIY Cycle Shed
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden and some basic DIY nous, you can assemble an incognito bike shed for as little as £100. Robbers will just assume it’s one of those gas outlets for the property (add some warning stickers for extra believability), so you can sleep assured that your bike is safe without it taking up precious room in your house share!
