Tis’ the season to be jolly! YES we hear you cry! Or not… Although Christmas is a magical time of year, some things are bound to get on your nerves in a flat share during the festive season.  So here are the top 5 annoying things to look for so you can keep your cool this winter…

Scrooge vs ELF

Get ready to be surrounded by annoying housemates who either hate Christmas or are like ELF on a sugar high after eating too many candy canes.

Secret Santa

Was Secret Santa invented by Scrooge himself? Perhaps. This horrendous method of buying gifts is enough to make you want to stuff your face full of mince pies to cheer yourself up. You end up pulling your least favourite housemate’s name out of the hat who you hardly know anything about. You spend hours on end profiling them to get them a suitable gift. You scour the shelves for something they might like, spending enough to buy 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree, to find you end up with bath salts. Not cool.

Deliveries

Think you might put on weight during the winter season? Think again! Get ready to make constant trips to the front door to accept your lazy housemate’s online deliveries who either can’t be bothered to go to the door or who is constantly out. Who knew you could buy so many bath salts online?!?

Christmas dinner

You spend hours slaving away in the kitchen to make a Christmas dinner Mary Berry would be proud of and no one contributes towards the costs. Yule be sorry as you discover your housemate has eaten the entirety of your advent calendar as the shops were shut last Sunday and they had nothing in for dinner!

Decorations

You lovingly decorate your shared home with beautiful decorations as if your flat had hopped straight out of HouseBeautiful to discover your housemate in a drunken stupor on the living room floor tangled up in fairy lights, paper chains and a fallen down Christmas tree.

Christmas is extremely fun when flat sharing and the good definitely outweighs the bad! Just remember, if things start to irritate, take a deep breath and try to remember what Christmas spirit is all about!
