5 ideas for hosting a harmonious (and happening) housewarming party!

Housewarming parties are legends unto themselves. You’ve done the castings and the ads, and now you’re ready to embark on a journey of (hopefully) harmonious house-sharing. The first, and most significant rite of passage in all of this, is the housewarming party.

Why it is important to host the ‘right’ kind of housewarming party

First and foremost, a housewarming party should not be about jeopardising your overall chances of staying in the place. The housewarming party, in essence, sets the tone for all that is to come for you and your roomies. You’ve chewed the fat with the landlord, you’ve scored the pad and now you want to share and celebrate this with your nearest and dearest.

A few tips for you to follow

1. Arouse their appetite

Whip up some fab and fun foods, and maybe a few interesting and exotic drinks. Turn on some foot-tapping tunes too, and let everyone feel at ease.

2. Make them feel at home

On the topic of making people at ease, make sure to mingle and introduce people who are unfamiliar with one another.

3. Set up party no-nos

Whilst there’s no need to lower the tone, it’s worth pointing out a couple of housewarming party no-nos. As tempting as it may be, the party should be bumping, but not so bumping that both your landlord and your neighbours are buzzed off with you from the get-go.

4. Communicate with your new roomies

Another unwritten rule in the world of housewarmings: do not let things get off to a bad start with your new roommates either, getting intimate with one of your new housemates or locking yourself in the bathroom for a ‘deep and meaningful’ with your new housemate’s best friend. Whilst perhaps part of the joys of student life, this is no way to set the tone for a shared lived experience!

5. Make sure to enjoy yourself at your own party

Did we forget to mention… have fun! You shouldn’t think it’s all perils and precipices, however. The emphasis should be on having fun and feeling relaxed in your new abode. The ideas above should help you to start creating the right recipe for a successful housewarming. Have fun!
