Increase of professionals in flatshare

EasyRoommate has looked into its data to give a summary of the flatshare market for the first quarter of 2016.

Unsurprisingly, rent prices continue to climb (+27% compared to the first quarter of 2015), but this is not the only noticeable trend: Flatsharers in the UK are growing older!

UK roommates have grown older, with an average age of 28, gaining 0.5 years compared to the first quarter of 2015 Furthermore the share of flatmates over 40 has grown by 13% since 2012, proving that flatsharing has become a durable trend of British accommodation.

The majority of flatmates are professionals, climbing to 61% from 56% in the first quarter 2015. More surprisingly, the proportion of retirees, while still quite limited, is growing significantly: +80% since 2012, and +33% compared to the first quarter of 2015!

Maybe it’s because there is more professionals in shared accommodation… The rental and HMO market in the UK is competitive, but flatsharers are no longer surprised by it.

Flatmates have an average budget of £575, matching exactly with rent prices demanded by renters advertising their spare rooms. The increase in rental budget for UK flatsharers is remarkable as the rent prices have grown by 27% compared to the same period last year!
