Anybody who’s ever been to Leeds knows that the city prides itself on its pubs, bars and clubs, and it’s a truism to say that the city loves its beer. With craft beer and real ales all the rage these days, why not take your Leeds flatshare pals to a summery beer garden (parasol optional) and sip on something brown. Here are some of Leeds’s finest craft beer gardens for the summer.
The Tetley
What used to be the old Tetley Brewery has been reborn as a cool arts and leisure space for people of all ages to play, create and have fun. There’s also a great bar and kitchen in amongst the galleries and creative spaces, so when you take up the offer on that Leeds spare room, break the ice with your new flatmates over a cold pint at this distinct Leeds venue.
They hold regular garden parties, too, so you can max out and relax all cool on the lawn outside.
Calls Landing
The website reads that there’s nowhere quite like it, and it might be right, because Calls Landing’s blissful river-side location is the best Leeds has to offer.
While there are a couple of other bars that sit nestled beside the River Aire, none offer the fine selection of ales and craft beers, freshly baked, classic pork pies and delicious stews and oysters the bar is famed for. Couple that with its stunning riverside location and you’ve got a recipe for a successful evening with your mates.
Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen
What do the oldest flying aeroplane in Britain, Cluedo, M&S, Jelly Tots and Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen have in common? They’re all from Leeds.
Surely there’s no better city to call home? Belgrave is a bit of a recently established Leeds institution, with great rotating food stalls, two floors of bars and a pretty great rooftop garden where you can look out over the whole city. Pro tip: get your pints in downstairs and head to the rooftop for a gander over the rooftops.
Brudenell Social Club
Speaking of Leeds institutions, they don’t make them like Brudenell Social Club anymore. Brudenell is one of Leeds’s small music venues, and is a regular stop off on small, up and coming bands’ and niche acts’ tours.
With a decent selection of beers on tap, as well as your favourite bag of salt and vinegar crisps, slightly filthy benches and a comfortable wall to perch on outside, this is every Leeds culture vulture’s favourite spot. If you like music and beer, this is where you aught to spend your free time.
The Palace
The Palace has been around since 1741 and used to be the home of a Leeds timber merchant. The home was converted into an inn in 1841 and has been serving a massive selection of real ales ever since. More recently, the pub has served a healthy raft of craft beers alongside its traditional ales.
With a small beer garden out front, you and your friends can watch the world go by in this gem of a pub. No mistake, if you and your friends have refined pallets for hops and live in a flatshare in Leeds, The Palace is worth every penny.
